Raptor Reading & Growing Reader's
Club Information
Your child will be bringing home library and classroom library books throughout the year and what a great opportunity to introduce or remind everyone to the Rothschild Reading Program also known as the Raptors Reading Club. At Hatley Elementary, it is the Growing Readers Club. The reading program is designed to encourage students to increase their independent reading. The program is built around simple record keeping. The following guidelines are to be followed:
1. The child reads a book or audio book from home, school or the public library.
2. The title is recorded on the book club list. The sheets may be picked up in the library or your teacher’s room.
3. For books over 50 pages in length, every 25 page segment may be counted as one book. For example, if you read a book that has 100 pages, it will count as 4 lines on the recording sheet.
4. Younger children may include books that have been read to them. Older students may count the books that they read to younger children or siblings.
5. Sheets must be signed by a teacher, parent or guardian to verify the successful completion of reading the book.
6. Completed sheets are to be turned into the teacher and new blank sheets will be made available.
7. The reading lists and totals will follow the student throughout their years at Rothschild.
8. All record keeping will be handled by the IMC volunteers or staff.
